You forgot to mention Steve Allen's early work in radio. That is easy to do when there are so few remaining recordings. One of those is in the Archive at the link below.
Mr. Allen helped many people during their start in the business, His promotion of the early "counter culture" performers put a lot of them on the national stage when 'safer' venues did not.
What other TV show would have some dorky guy play the bicycle? And then fight for migrant workers in the grape trade?

It was always the 500 pound gorilla in the room.
Interviews with her are pretty laid back.
She is in her 70’s- only thing she said was substance abuse brought out a darker side in him.
And she felt like even with the age difference it was always on her to be the adult iin the room.

I'm a big Jerry Lee fan, so this, though not unexpected, hits hard . From a few years later, in the middle of the" British Invasion", shot in the foot by self inflicted career destruction, he toured, and put on some ferocious shows .
Here is one from the UK, in which he besides the rockers ("Shakin' goes a little long, but must have been unbelievable live ,like a Pig "Lovelight") features two Hank Williams songs, inc "You Win Again".

It takes a great sinner to understand redemption , and by both sacred and secular standards, Jerry Lee fits that title to a tee . I could go into his decidedly unpleasant (sociopathic) personality,, . but let's just say you would not wanted him to move next door . But like Elvis and Little Richard, he was a believer . Elvis seemed the most comfortable, with this sacred secular dichotomy, Little Richard the least . Jerry Lee's sacred material comes off, for me, more convincing . One of the enjoyable things, is that his blues feel of his secular material, fits convincingly in his sacred music . Listen to the piano solos, pure Jerry Lee. He has a little trouble reaching the parts used to with his voice, but he adapts, and it comes out fine . If Jerry Lee’s beliefs are true, he may be sitting around a fire with Chuck Berry and saving a place for his cousin Jimmy Swaggart . But if the Lord likes good music, who knows . Though he would have to continually tell Mr. Lewis that that seat is HIS throne, not Jerry Lee's

As far as music goes that clip of JLL surrounded by his mainly young male audience just shows him to be a King Bee

I got curious. Turns out Mr Allen had lots of rockers on his shows. One of the first to have Elvis. This is how they coped with NBC censors. Allen said Elvis did nothing different but somehow the suit seemed to make it all right. 😄

If you were not around to see it the first time, that video is worth a look now. At that time Elvis was a capital letter Performer who was in touch with the audience.
Watch his expression at the end of the first verse when he normally did his 'controversial' leg and pelvic move. He doesn't do it at the drum cue but does give a smile at the expectant audience. Too bad he was gradually packaged into that thing he became.
Even his wiping of the dogs drool off his hand was a calculated move. Genius in action.

Culture Norms are in the eye of the beholder and certainly we as a society don’t find much to blush about anymore.
Elvis is larger than life and timeless
But PETA would probably get bent out of shape today
for exploiting a hound dog. Although some of those folks get totally buck naked for their cause.
Notice they kept the camera tight on the King and the hound.

All I remember is that there was a real popular TV show around then with a talking hound named Cleo.
And I did notice. Gotta give a bow to some unknown cameramen. Who knows what that hound was doing.

Allen gets a bad rap with some Rock history types , but if you were a hip adult, maybe a jazz fan, rock n' roll seemed pretty dumb . He famously would read lyrics, like "Be-Bop-a-Lula" to have fun with them . Years later (1966) he dis the same with "Eleanor Rigby", but the point was not humor, but how the "Yeah yeah yeah" guys had matured into something a lot deeper .
